Two very different individuals, each with unique challenges, tackle the hard work of rehab at White Oak Manor!
In the fall of 2023, David had a severe Rt CVA with residual L hemiparesis. In fact, due to increased muscle tone, he had only slight movement in his L side. Upon initiation of therapy, his goal was to “walk his daughter down the aisle”. David is now slowly making progress towards that goal. At the time of his evaluation, David was dependent for bed mobility, transfers and walking. He had a feeding tube and required maximal assistance to bathe, moderate assistance for upper body dressing and was dependent for toileting and lower body dressing.
Although groin pain continues to trouble David, he persists in making an effort each therapy session. He can now walk up to 20’ holding the hallway rail or 10’ with minimal assistance using a hemi walker. Transfers require moderate assistance and moving from supine to sitting requires only minimal assistance! Dressing his upper half has improved to minimal assistance, lower body dressing is moderate assistance on a less painful day. Active range of motion mobility is beginning to return to his left side, and he now has braces to support him.
Although there are more goals to achieve, David’s determination will go a long way in helping him to realize those goals. Kudos to David and his rehab team in supporting his progress.
Donald is another White Oak Manor success story! The loss of a loved one, complicated by multiple health issues in the fall of 2023, landed this gentleman at White Oak in November of 2023. At that time he had severe back spasms and knee pain limiting his ability to move. He was unable to stand, was dependent for transfers and his lower body strength was 2/5. He required moderate assistance to dress his lower half from bed level and was dependent for toileting.
Donald’s hard work and his dedicated therapy team have improved his ability to perform a low pivot transfer with stand by assist to modified independence. He can stand briefly with contact guard assist as pain allows and his lower body strength has improved to 3+/5! Donald needs only stand by assist most days for all phases of toileting and can dress his lower half with set up to stand by assist as well. His goal is to improve to where he can leave White Oak and manage in his own apartment. This goal is certainly achievable considering the progress he’s made so far!
Both gentlemen have big goals to attain, and with the caring therapy team at White Oak Manor, plus their own motivation and drive, these goals are within their reach! Thank you, David, Donald and the rehab team at White Oak (Bethany- see Employee Recognition page! Jessica, Lynn, Lory, Bri, JoLena and Cinnamon) for your commitment to success and all the work that goes into making wishes come true!
