Horace

After being hospitalized and intubated for three weeks due to COVID, Horace is heading home from Gateway Care Center!

This gentleman is now homeward bound to New  York  thanks to his hard work and the dedicated team at Gateway Care Center!  Despite being hosptialized for the novel coronavirus and intubated for three weeks, he has regained his independence.  When Horace came to Gateway, he could not roll over in bed without maximal assistance, was dependent for all mobility and could not even complete basic grooming without excessive fatigue.  Over the course of about 10 weeks he has progressed to being able to ambulate unlimited distances with a cane, perform mobility on uneven surfaces with only stand-by- assist and even climb a flight of 18 steps!  He is now also able to completely dress and bathe as well as perform home making tasks with just supervision, including reaching down to the floor to provide pet care! After such prolonged intubation and sedation, Horace received speech therapy to fine tune his cognitive and swallowing skills. He is now able to enjoy regular foods and would earn an "A" grade for his memory and problem solving skills! Together this gentleman and the team at Gateway Care Center have crushed COVID! Congratulations to all!
