Belated Birthday Gift!
More than six months after a trip to the ER for a cough and shortness of breath, Mark has finally returned home! This local school bus driver / mechanic was found to have had a heart attack, followed by several complications resutling in an induced coma, mechanical ventilation, dialysis, PEG Tube placement and an abdominal wound. After 5 months of hospitalization, Mark came to Falls Village, unable to walk, toilet himself and needed constant supervision.
Physical, Occupational and Speech therapies all went to work on this gentleman. They describe him as motivated, hardworking and determined. Initially Mark scored Zero inches on the Functional Reach Test, 14/24 on the Self Care 6-Clicks ( AMPAC) and had severe memory and problem solving impairments. In just 6 weeks of intensive therapy, Mark imporved to being able to walk 100' with contact guard assist, climb 5 steps with minimal assist, dress and toilet himself with contact guard assist (21 / 24 on the AMPAC!) and be safely left home alone for several hours.
Finally, 3 weeks after his birthday, Mark got the best gift of all, a hard earned welcome home! Through his hard work, perseverance and the equally dedicated therapy team at Falls Village , we celebrate and can be inspired by his accomplishment. Congratulations Mark and the Falls Village therapy team!
