Like most of our amazing FRCs, Facility Rehab Coordinator Bethany can make the best out of each situation that comes her way every day White Oak Manor. This facility has a variety of challenges from physical space remodeling, a diverse and lively resident population and managing multiple PRN therapists’ schedules. She does all this with a smile and great sense of humor!
When asked about why she enjoys working at White Oak, Bethany said she likes that each day is very different, and that her therapy team works well together to make rehab fun and think outside the box. They try to make therapy not always feel like therapy! Bethany’s enthusiasm and caring approach has turned around the resident’s perception of rehab. Previously it was difficult to get residents down to the treatment area and fully participate. Several of the residents have histories of addiction and mental health challenges, making motivation even more difficult. Now she has residents waiting for their therapy session first thing in the morning! The coffee pot goes on and the resident and patients make their way down a long hallway to enjoy some camaraderie and tasty coffee.
Bethany has re-arranged the therapy area to be more inviting and functional. The coffee pot and candy jar are well known throughout the building! She has also encouraged use of their adjacent outdoor area. One resident (Donald, see Success Stories) bought the squirrel feeder you see pictured and Bethany generally keeps it stocked to encourage some entertainment by the critters, easily viewed from department windows.
As an FRC and PTA, Bethany truly treats everyone as if they are family. Her creativity, passion for her job, and for the residents makes Arbor Rehab especially proud. Thank you Bethany for all you do!
