Bills have beeen introduced by both houses of Congress to standardize the way patients are assessed. Tools such as the MDS, IRF's PAI and others would be revised so providers can report standard data for such benchmarks as cognition as well as prior and current level of functioning. This common language will enable policy makers and service providers to determine the most appropriate setting for specific post acute care needs.
Also this week in Washington, the Supreme Court has ruled against the ACA in that the government now cannot force a private company to provide insurance coverage for contraceptives. This may translate to other agencies in the future such as Non-Profit groups. This decision was by a 5 to 4 ruling.
